Will Barton recently re-signed with the Nuggets on a two-year, $32 million deal, as the 30-year old has spent the last 6+ seasons in Denver.

When he initially entered free agency, there was talk that he could be headed out of the “Mile High City.” However, Barton opted to stay put, which he called a “simple decision,” Mike Singer of the Denver Post writes.

“I always knew the interest was mutual,” Barton said. “We’ve been together for a long time, so I didn’t think it’d be any funny business.”

Barton was in contact with several Nuggets players throughout his decision-making process, including Jamal Murray, Michael Porter Jr. and JaMychal Green, as they discussed his potential role shall the longest-tenured Nuggets player remain in Denver.

“All the guys wanted me back,” Barton said. “They knew I wanted to be back.”

Green, who was also a free agent heading into the offseason, is particularly confident in what Barton brings to the team.

“Once I found out he was coming back, it definitely put a smile on my face,” Green said. “… He’s a big part of the puzzle. He’s really the x-factor. Once he gets going, he can really make the game a lot easier for the team.”

Barton only played in three playoff games last season and his 2019-20 season ended early, as he left the “Bubble” early due to a leg injury. However, Barton says his “ultimate drive now” is to perform at a high level in the playoffs.
