The official scoresheet from Wilt Chamberlain’s historic 100-point game will soon be up for auction, and a report suggests the iconic piece of basketball memorabilia could fetch upward of $100,000.
Action Network’s Darren Rovell on Tuesday tweeted out the news about the impending sale of the treasured scoresheet, which is signed by Chamberlain. The auction is being conducted by SCP Auctions.
Chamberlain achieved the century mark in points scored in the Philadelphia Warriors’ 169-147 victory over the New York Knicks on March 2, 1962, in Hershey, Pa.
When asked in 1987 about the remarkable feat of scoring 100 points in a game, Chamberlain modestly downplayed the significance of it by pointing out something about his overall season in 1962.
“As outstanding as it may seem, it’s really a normal thing that I did it,” Chamberlain said. “You have to remember that I averaged 50 points a game that year. Players that average 16 or 17 points usually have at least one game during a season when they score 35. That’s just what I did; I doubled my average.”
The auction of the scoresheet, arguably among the most coveted items of NBA memorabilia ever, will open on April 10 with bids being accepted until April 27.
