Last season, it was safe to say that the Washington Wizards had everything figured out besides the point guard and center positions. Many individuals felt Monte Morris was an extremely serviceable player to help the offense go places. However, the Wizards ended up putting the ball in the hot player’s hands. That took many opportunities away from Morris and the feeling in the room was he may have underachieved during his tenure with the Washington Wizards.

The other position at the center position was left in the hands of Daniel Gafford. He was solid as well. He didn’t win you many games but he certainly didn’t lose you any either. He did his job and quite frankly, he did what was asked of him. There wasn’t high expectations there. The idea was to keep Kristaps Porzingis at the center position but he was so versatile for the Wizards, you didn’t and really couldn’t just leave him there at the five position.

Late in the season last year, the Washington Wizards incorporated Jay Huff to their game plan. Jay Huff appeared in just 11 games for the Wizards where he averaged 5 PPG along with 2 RPG. Although it was a very small sample size, Huff was in a very elite category as he shot over 50% from the field, over 40% from the three point line, and over 90% from the free throw line.

The UVA product won the NBA G League Defensive Player of the Year Award last season before joining the Washington Wizards and was on the All NBA G League First Team as well. Although he will be on a two-way deal with the Denver Nuggets, he for sure will be a key asset in their future plans as the Nuggets will look to hide Nikola Jokic defensively at times as well as preserve his health as they look to defend their NBA title and make a deep run in the playoffs yet again.
