The Washington Wizards have re-signed guard Cassius Winston to a two-way contract, according to Fred Katz of The Athletic.
Winston was a second-round draft pick in 2020 and was acquired by the Wizards on draft night. He played on a two-way contract last season as a rookie.
Splitting his time between the NBA and G League, Winston appeared in 22 games for the Wizards. He averaged 4.5 minutes per game, playing mostly in mop-up duty. He averaged 1.9 points. More glaring he made 8-of-17 threes for 47.1%
Washington extended a qualifying offer to him this offseason. With no market, the team was able to get Winston back, giving him an opportunity to continue his development under their watch.
Before the NBA, Winston spent four seasons playing in college at Michigan State. There, he was a two-time All-American, winning Big Ten Player of the Year in 2019 and the Most Outstanding Player in the Big Ten conference tournament the same year.
This season, Winston will be buried behind Spencer Dinwiddie, Raul Neto and Aaron Holiday at point guard for the Wizards. Thus, he is expected to see a great portion of his time with the G League-affiliate the Capital City Go-Go.
