Wizards reportedly expected to hire Wes Unseld Jr. as head coach

The Washington Wizards parted ways with head coach Scott Brooks last month and hope to have landed his replacement before the end of July.

ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reports the Wizards are offering Denver Nuggets assistant Wes Unseld Jr. the job, perhaps as soon as this weekend. The Worldwide Leader adds talks that are scheduled to begin Saturday should "result in an agreement" between the two parties.

Unseld previously worked for Washington as an assistant from 2005 to 2011 and, per the NBA's website, spent one season with the Golden State Warriors before linking up with the Orlando Magic from 2012 through 2014-15. He accepted his role in Denver in 2015 and has been there since.

The son of Hall of Famer and former Washington Bullets player and franchise general manager Wes Unseld Sr. will immediately be tasked with selling himself to stars Bradley Beal and Russell Westbrook. Beal has a player option for 2022-23, and Westbrook voiced his support for Brooks this spring.
