Wizards star Bradley Beal out Friday vs. Knicks

Washington Wizards superstar guard Bradley Beal may not be going anywhere in the way of a trade this winter, but he will begin the weekend as a spectator.

As Marc Stein of the New York Times reported, the Wizards will rest Beal for Friday night's game versus the New York Knicks. Washington hosts the Boston Celtics on Sunday and then the Houston Rockets on Monday evening.

Beal scored 24 points in Wednesday's 137-115 loss to the Toronto Raptors that dropped the Wizards to 6-16 on the season. According to ESPN stats, Beal leads the NBA with 32.8 points per game and is ninth with a player efficiency rating of 24.76.

For a piece published by Yahoo Sports' Ben Rohrbach earlier in the day, Mark Bartelstein, Beal's agent, said that his client does not wish to join a different team ahead of the trade deadline.

"[Beal] doesn’t want to quit on something,” Bartelstein explained. "He’s an incredibly loyal guy, and he wants to always feel like he’s done everything he can to help something or someone be successful."

Bartelstein continued:

"It’s the team that drafted him, the team that’s invested in him, and he desperately wants to make them a championship contender. He wants to make it happen. That’s the way he is. He’s not looking for the easy way out."

Beal has played only for the Wizards since they selected him third overall in the 2012 NBA Draft.
