Houston Rockets legend Yao Ming was one of 11 individuals inducted into the FIBA Hall of Fame on Thursday. Yao recorded three FIBA Asia Cup titles during his basketball career. He was also inducted for his contributions in playing a significant role in basketball's global appeal.

Yao's enshrinement marked his second Hall of Fame induction. In 2016, he was part of a star-studded class when he entered the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame with Allen Iverson and Shaquille O'Neal.

Yao made history in 2002 when he became the first international player to be chosen with the No. 1 pick by the Rockets. He played nine years, all with the Rockets, and became an eight-time All-Star and two All-NBA Second Teams.

His No. 11 jersey is one of seven retired by the Rockets. In 486 career games, Yao averaged 19.0 points, 9.0 rebounds and 1.9 blocks. While playing alongside All-Stars Steve Francis and Tracy McGrady, Yao helped the Rockets reach the playoffs in five out of his nine seasons in the league.

His best game came in a February road victory over the Atlanta Hawks in 2004. He finished with 41 points, 16 rebounds and seven assists to lead the Rockets to a triple-overtime victory.

But before leaving an NBA legacy, Yao began his pro career with the Shanghai Sharks junior team of the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA). He was 13 years old. In 2001, Yao won league MVP honors. The following year, he led the Sharks to the CBA championship.

Joining Yao in the 2023 FIBA Hall of Fame are basketball legends Wlamir Marques and Penny Taylor.
