Zero NBA players positive for COVID-19 once again

For a piece published May 21, ESPN's Tim Bontemps explained that NBA commissioner Adam Silver said at that time "close to 80%" of all the league's players had received COVID-19 vaccine shots.

Those vaccinations combined with continued health and safety protocols are working and allowing personnel to avoid spending time at a "bubble" site during the playoffs.

The NBA and National Basketball Players Association confirmed Wednesday that zero new players tested positive for the coronavirus over the past week. It's the second consecutive week the Association hasn't recorded a single positive result during the postseason tournament.

Last Friday, MLB and the MLB Players Association announced that 84.5% of Tier 1 individuals were considered fully or partially vaccinated at that time. 81.2% of Tier 1 employees were fully vaccinated ahead of Memorial Day. Only one MLB player, a Triple-A player and a staff member recorded positive COVID-19 results in the league's latest round of testing.

None of the major North American sports leagues or competitions are requiring athletes to receive COVID-19 vaccine jabs to participate in seasons or official team activities.
