The Minnesota Timberwolves have begun the season 2-2.
The Minnesota Timberwolves will be without Anthony Edwards who is set to miss at least three games, but potentially more, as he is dealing with a hamstring injury.
Not having Edwards for a few games will be a big blow for the Timberwolves, who dropped their last game without Edwards to the Denver Nuggets.
With Edwards sidelined, the Timberwolves have been weak defensively and they need other players to step up.
The Timberwolves acquired the rights to the 8th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft which was used to select Rob Dillingham from the San Antonio Spurs in exchange for a future first-round pick and a first-round pick swap.
The Timberwolves giving up future assets meant that they were high on Dillingham. However, so far this season the sophomore has only played in 13 minutes over four games and has seemingly taken a back seat to Bones Hyland.
Bill Simmons was shocked that the Timberwolves were not playing Dillingham.
“I just couldn’t believe Bones Hyland was playing over Rob Dillingham, a guy they gave up a real asset for.
“I thought he had a couple of moments last year. I thought Minnesota was a true contender.
“The guard situation left me, I’m actually nervous for that team, they are missing something.”
The Timberwolves could use some solid guard play right now with Edwards out but so far they have been unable to get it.
Through four games Rob Dillingham has barely seen the court. The one game where he did receive 12 minutes, he put up 4 points, 2 assists and 1 steal.
Tim Legler expressed his concerns with the Timberwolves and notably Dillingham who doesn’t seem to have a defined role on this Timberwolves roster.
“I’m concerned. When you have such a need and you still can’t find a way to make that happen, that tells me that they are seeing something on a daily basis.”
If the Timberwolves are going to survive this period without Edwards, they need better guard play.
