Before the Dallas Mavericks vs. Indiana Pacers game on Wednesday night, Brandon Williams apologized for his alleged marijuana arrest at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. Williams, 25, was arrested and charged with marijuana possession on Saturday.
Before the Mavericks vs. Pacers game on Wednesday, Williams apologized for being a distraction after the arrest and subsequent charge at DFW on Saturday. “I can’t really go into further detail,” the 25-year-old said. “I just want to apologize for just being a distraction. I want to take full accountability.”
His apology may not be fully accepted by everybody, but he posted 20 points and 7 rebounds off the bench in the Mavericks’ 107-105 win over the Pacers at the American Airlines Center.
The Mavericks reserve guard was arrested at DFW on Saturday after TSA officials found less than two ounces of marijuana in his luggage. For those unfamiliar with Dallas-Fort Worth area laws, marijuana is illegal under federal law as it’s classified as a Schedule I controlled substance. Federal regulations still prohibit its possession and transport.
The reserve guard’s arrest forced him to miss two games due to personal reasons. The reserve guard likely lost some earnings, as his salary for the 2025-26 NBA season is $2,270,735.
“Going to a funeral for a friend that’s passing, having that incident, that’s something that he has to deal with,” Head Coach Jason Kidd said. “We can all be here to support him.”
The Los Angeles native’s arrest likely came as a shock to some MFFLs and members of the Mavericks organization. However, the arrest isn’t shocking at all. Marijuana is illegal under federal law, and a TSA officer would hand the situation over to local law enforcement.
