As the Cleveland Cavaliers look to remain atop the Eastern Conference in 2025-26, they find themselves with a key player in and out of the lineup. Ahead of their second showdown with the Miami Heat this season, the team has provided a new update on point guard Darius Garland.
It's been a shaky start to the year for Garland, appearing in just three games thus far. The two-time All-Star has been limited due to a lingering toe injury.
The last time Garland was in action for Cleveland was earlier this week in the Cavs' first showdown against the Heat. He logged just 19 minutes in the overtime thriller, notching 11 points and five rebounds.
On Wednesday night, the Cavaliers and Heat will square off for the second time this week. However, per their latest injury report, Cleveland is going to be heavily shorthanded in the rematch. Garland is one of the multiple players who won't be in action, being ruled out for injury management.
Aside from Garland, the Cavs will also be without the services of Donovan Mitchell (rest) and Evan Mobley (rest).
Garland's toe ailment has resulted in him posting some of the lowest numbers since his rookie season. Through his first three appearances, he is averaging 13.0 PPG, 3.0 RPG, and 5.0 APG.
With Garland and Mitchell out of action, the Cavaliers will have to get deep into their rotation in Wednesday's rematch with the Heat. Among those likely to be tasked with filling the void include Lonzo Ball, Craig Porter Jr. and Sam Merrill.
