Random dribbles following the Cavaliers’ gut-punch of a 121-108 home loss to the Knicks in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference finals on Saturday night.

1. In each of the last two series, we uttered the phrase, “Game 7. The two greatest words in sports.” You know the worst words in sports? “We’re down 3-0.”

2. But that is where the Cavaliers are today — on basketball life support. No NBA team has ever rallied from a 3-0 series deficit. Ever. So, yeah. Good luck, fellas.

3. Let’s face it, the gap between these teams suddenly feels a lot bigger than anyone expected. Not necessarily in talent. Just in identity. The Knicks know exactly who they are. They defend, run, space the floor, attack mismatches and keep coming at you for 48 minutes.

4. Basically, the Knicks look like a team that fully expects to be playing in June. The Cavs? They still look like they’re still trying to figure it out on the fly.

5. The Knicks will just wear you down. Physically. Mentally. In transition. Everywhere. The Cavs were a step slow getting back most of the night and the Knicks made them pay for it over and over again.

6. That was especially true in the third quarter, when the game really tilted for good. “They were the more physical team,” Cavs coach Kenny Atkinson said. “They were the much better team.”

7. I’d say that about sums it up.

8. In the biggest game of the season, the Cavs never led. Not once. The Knicks came out throwing punches immediately, jumping ahead 9-1 before everyone had even settled into their seats.

9. The Cavs eventually fought back and tied it at 50 late in the second quarter. But every time it felt like momentum might swing, New York answered with another run, another offensive rebound or another Jalen Brunson bucket that sucked the life out of the building.

10. Speaking of Brunson, the guy is simply relentless. He finished with 30 points and once again controlled the pace of the game whenever things got shaky for New York. Mikal Bridges added 22 points, OG Anunoby scored 21 and the Knicks just kept attacking.

11. Meanwhile, Donovan Mitchell battled through what Atkinson described before the game as “normal bumps and bruises.” Mitchell finished with 23 points on 9-of-21 shooting.

12. That said, this didn’t feel like one of those nights where he could simply put the Cavs on his back and drag them home. You’re probably not gonna beat the Knicks like that, anyway.

13. Evan Mobley scored 24 points, grabbed six rebounds and at least looked like someone who understood the urgency of the moment. Jarrett Allen added 17 points and seven boards.

14. James Harden finished with 19 points, five rebounds, five assists… and five turnovers. The turnovers hurt. A lot. Really, the entire Cavs offense felt rushed and uncomfortable most of the night.

15. As Atkinson said, “We’re putting so much pressure on ourselves defensively by not making shots.”

16. Defensively, the Cavs continue to help too aggressively off Josh Hart, continue to switch too easily onto Brunson and continue to struggle getting organized in transition.

17. Now, though, it’s no longer about adjustments. It’s about survival.

18. Mitchell was refelective when it comes to where things stand. “Don’t lose Game 1 when you’re up 22. That’s the one thing I would say. But hey, that’s where we are. … It’s on us. We have an opportunity to get Game 4, and go from there.”

19. Sounds simple, but at this point, the Cavs don’t really have another choice. Break out any rally cry you can.

20. At some point, someone, somehow, someway will overcome 3-0. The Cavs either make NBA history, or start their summer, when the offseason questions will begin.

21. Game 4 is Monday night. Rocket Arena. Will it be the last game of 2025-26 for the Cavs? It kind of feels that way. Yes, they’ve overcome advesity before. But never quite like this.
