Danny Ainge back in Boston after suffering mild heart attack

A statement issued by the Celtics Thursday indicated the Celtics general manger and president of basketball operations “received immediate medical attention and is expected to make a full recovery” in the wake of the minor cardiac event.

Ainge’s son Austin relayed to Celtics head coach Brad Stevens that his father was able to sleep in his own bed on Thursday night.

Austin Ainge previously shared the family’s gratitude for all the support in an emotional tweet.

Stevens, meanwhile, was made aware of Ainge’s heart attack ahead of the Celtics’ 123-102 loss on the road in Game 2. The decision was made not to inform Celtics players, however, ahead of tipoff.

“He’s a friend and, you know, the family has been so good to us, so you don’t think about anything else,” Stevens said, via WCVB-5. “You just want them to be comfortable and feeling great, feeling better, a good prognosis – all that is the case. And, obviously, you immediately go to his family, his kids, his wife – and they all seem to be doing well too.”

With Ainge, 60, seemingly on the mend and on the road to recovery, the Celtics can turn their attention to staking themselves a 2-1 lead with a victory in Game 3 on Friday night at TD Garden.
