Derrick White spoke about playing alongside new signing Josh Minott, and what the star brings to the Boston Celtics.
One of the signings that few people talked about during the offseason was the Boston Celtics landing Josh Minott.
After the Celtics lost Jayson Tatum to injury, they knew internally that they weren’t going to compete for an NBA championship and decided to gut their expensive roster in exchange for role players.
The Celtics signed Minott in free agency, who left the Minnesota Timberwolves after a successful run to the Western Conference Finals. Jaylen Brown even said the Celtics should have signed Minott years ago.
Minott quickly earned Joe Mazzulla’s admiration and made his way into the team’s rotation without any real difficulty.
Derrick White spoke with streamer N3on on his podcast recently, and the two had a conversation about his new Boston Celtics teammates.
When discussing what he wants to see Josh Minott do on the Boston Celtics, White admitted he wants the underrated star to prove people wrong and make a name for himself.
“I would probably say Josh Minott. It’s his fourth year in the league. He never really got an opportunity in Minnesota.
“He was not really getting much time there. So, he is coming here hungry and excited for this opportunity, where we’re going to need him to play and do a lot of things.
“He has a lot of talent. He can do a little bit of everything out there on both sides of the court.
“Guys like that, where this might be their first opportunity to show what they can do in the NBA, to make a name for themselves, have to have that dog energy. I’m excited for Josh, and we have a few guys like that.”
Derrick White also spoke about Anfernee Simons joining the Celtics this summer, and what he can bring to the team, specifically as a scorer.
“We talked about [Anfernee Simons]. He has done a lot in this league. He has scored at a high level. So, for him to come over here from Portland and figure out our system is exciting.”
So far, the Celtics are 0-3 to start the season. While these new signings have been a decent addition to their roster, the Celtics are really feeling the absence of Jayson Tatum.
Going forward, the Celtics will be hoping to survive the rest of the season. But given the exciting 2026 NBA Draft class, it might behoove the Celtics to continue losing to improve their odds at landing a top pick.
