Dwyane Wade has decided to shake things up a bit in his final NBA season by debuting a new hairstyle this week. According to the Miami Heat legend, the look is a nod to an NBA icon.
Wade dazzled onlookers — and social media — by emerging on the court rocking cornrows ahead of Monday’s 124-121 loss to the Phoenix Suns.

On Tuesday, Wade was asked about the new ‘do.
“I’m trying my inner Allen Iverson,” Wade said after practice Tuesday, as transcribed by the South Florida Sun-Sentinel’s Ira Winderman.
Wade added he simply wanted to change things up and that the timing was right.

“There’s a lot of factors,” Wade said on what inspired him to rock the new hairstyle. “I’ve been growing my hair. I’m growing my hair to do different looks and I decided to do a different look.
“Once I got it done, I was like, ‘You know what? I’m going to do it in a game.’ ” … I’ve gotten my hair braided like three times in practice, but I haven’t worn it in a game. But I felt I was game ready, so ‘For the Culture.'”
With the new hairstyle, Wade put up 13 points, five assists, three rebounds, three steals and two blocks, a pretty solid all-around game in a losing effort.
With the Heat set to host the Golden State Warriors Wednesday night at AmericanAirlines Arena, it remains to be seen how long Wade will sport the new look.
“I don’t know,” Wade said. “We’ll see what happens.”
