Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra dropped immense praise on a new player.

The Miami Heat recently locked horns with the San Antonio Spurs, and as expected, the latter walked away with a win.

While the Heat remained competitive for four quarters, the Spurs ultimately registered a 107-101 win in the matchup.

As a result, the Heat have now fallen to a 3-2 record while the Spurs remain undefeated this season. Speaking of the matchup, coach Erik Spoelstra dropped immense praise on one Heat star.

Erik Spoelstra praises Simone Fontecchio

Simone Fontecchio arrived in Miami after a short spell with the Detroit Pistons. Following a strong showing during EuroBasket 2025, Heat fans were excited about Fontecchio.

On top of that, coach Spoelstra has backed Fontecchio at every point during his spell with the Heat. Spo once again praised the Italian star after seeing his performance against the Spurs.

“He’s ignitable. You have to scheme for him, you have to know where he is. That helps everything we do,” Spoelstra said after the game.

He added: “He knocks down one, and it’s a snowball rolling down the hill for him.”

In simple terms, Fontecchio is a rhythm shooter, and once he knocks down an early shot, it gets tough to stop him from scoring.

Fontecchio had 18 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists off the bench against the Spurs in a six-point loss.

Erik Spoelstra on how the San Antonio Spurs won the game

Led by the phenomenal Victor Wembanyama, the Spurs have emerged as a top team early in the regular season.

Once again, Wemby was at the center of the team’s victory, but coach Spo broke down the intricate details about losing to the Spurs.

“The Spurs made more plays down the stretch. It was a heck of a game, I think the last three plays there were two or three plays we could have changed things,” Spoelstra stated.

While the Heat dominated for the majority of the fourth quarter, the Spurs bounced back when it mattered the most. Either way, it was a solid game and a treat to watch for neutral NBA fans.
