Four-time All-Star expected to work out for Lakers

Four-time All-Star DeMarcus Cousins hasn't played in the NBA since last season, but according to Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report, the veteran center may be back on the court sooner rather than later.

Per Haynes, Cousins will work out for the Los Angeles Lakers sometime next week.

The 32-year-old entered the season without a team after splitting 2021-22 with the Denver Nuggets and Milwaukee Bucks. Cousins saw action in 48 games with seven starts, averaging 9.0 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 15.0 minutes per game.

Cousins has bounced around the NBA a lot since spending parts of seven seasons with the Sacramento Kings, who selected him fifth overall in the 2010 NBA Draft. Following a trade from the Kings to the New Orleans Pelicans in 2017, Cousins has played for the Golden State Warriors, Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Clippers, Bucks and Nuggets.

One primary reason Cousins has failed to stick in one place over an 11-year career is the reputation he's gained around the NBA for being difficult on and off the court.

Cousins has led the league in common fouls three times, and his penchant for technical fouls is already well-known.

He's had issues away from the floor too. In 2019, Cousins faced harassment charges, which were eventually dropped, after allegedly threatening his child's mother over the phone.

It's unclear how much Cousins has left in the tank, but the Lakers could use some warm bodies.

Center Anthony Davis remains out of action, rehabbing a stress injury in his right foot suffered in early December. Meanwhile, Lonnie Walker IV (knee tendinitis) and Austin Reaves (hamstring strain) are out with injury, expected to miss the next two weeks.
