Giannis Antetokounmpo saw his season end in the first round of the NBA playoffs for the third season in a row as the Indiana Pacers made short work of the Milwaukee Bucks in the 2025 first round.
With Damian Lillard expected to be out for the foreseeable future with an Achilles tear and the Bucks having no future assets to rebuild the team around Antetokounmpo, the summer of 2025 could mark the breaking point in this relationship.
Antetokounmpo has been a loyal Buck for the last 12 seasons, and he recently reiterated his desire to win a title in Milwaukee. However, Shams Charania of ESPN is reporting that, for the first time in his career, Antetokounmpo is pondering a potential exit from the Bucks but hasn't committed to a decision just yet.
"The two-time NBA MVP has not made any firm decisions on his Bucks future after the franchise's third consecutive postseason exit in the first round, but for the first time in his career, Antetokounmpo is open-minded about exploring whether his best long-term fit is remaining in Milwaukee or playing elsewhere, league sources told ESPN."
Charania also added that teams have started approaching the Bucks for Giannis, and talks might intensify over the coming week due to the NBA Draft Lottery and Combine.
"Teams have approached the Bucks frequently over the years about the availability of Antetokounmpo as a normal exercise, and are expected to ramp up due diligence during combine week, according to league sources."
Giannis averaged 30.4 points, 11.9 rebounds, and 6.5 assists this season, and is linked to various teams around the NBA. While the San Antonio Spurs and Houston Rockets might emerge as early contenders to acquire Antetokounmpo if he does want out, this saga might be a major offseason discussion with no quick resolution in sight.
