Earlier this week, The College Park Skyhawks — the Hawks G-League affiliate — announced their return to action. It will be their first appearance since COVID hit back in March of 2020, with the first game of their 50-game schedule taking place on Friday, November 5th at the Gateway Center at College Park against the Maine Celtics.

“We are beyond excited to return to action and welcome our fans back into the building this season,” said Janice Koon, Vice President of G League Operations and 2K League Operations for the Atlanta Hawks & State Farm Arena. “Now, more than ever, the Atlanta metropolitan area is on fire for basketball, and we can’t wait for our passionate fans to cheer us on in person.”

So if you’re around the city and a game is taking place, it could be a fantastic opportunity to catch one of the Hawks two, two-way players — Skylar Mays and Sharife Cooper. Both players starred in the SEC — Mays for LSU and Cooper for Auburn  — and both were second round picks of the Hawks. Depth will likely relegate them to the G-League for the majority of the season, but I can say fairly confidently that both players are well on their way to having solid NBA careers, especially Cooper, who shined in his first taste of professional basketball during Summer League in Las Vegas.
