Typing his team’s nickname into a web browser still brings the user to the Celtics’ website, but Jason Kidd is taking another step closer to being “Mr. Net.” Kidd, who is already the team’s coach and part-owner and led the franchise to its greatest heights as a player, will have his No. 5 retired by the Nets, the team announced via Twitter on Monday. Kidd’s jersey would be the seventh one retired by the Nets, who have played in Manhattan, Long Island, New Jersey and now Brooklyn. As a point guard, Kidd led the Nets to consecutive NBA Finals appearances in 2002 and 2003, losing to the Lakers and Spurs, respectively. He retired following last season after 19 seasons with the Mavericks, Suns, Nets and Knicks. Kidd made 10 All-Star games and finished as the runner-up in Most Valuable Player award voting in 2002. .@RealJasonKidd will have his No. 5 jersey retired.
