Jayson Tatum's 60 points in Celtics' win over Spurs ties Larry Bird's record: 'It was a special night'

Jayson Tatum continues to etch his name into the Boston Celtics' record books this season, with his latest record-tying performance coming on Friday night against the San Antonio Spurs.

After trailing by as many as 32 points in the first half, the Celtics made a remarkable comeback, beating the Spurs 143-140 in overtime. Tatum was a big reason why Boston walked away with the win. The 23-year-old notched 60 points, eight rebounds and five assists. His 60 points tied Larry Bird's franchise record.

After the game, Tatum said the night was "special" because he got to share it with his teammates, according to ESPN's Tim Bontemps:

"It was a special night. Just being around guys, playing with guys you enjoy being around, and are happy for your success ... we all see the hard work each and every one of us put in every day, so that when someone, myself or whoever it is, has a night like that, just to share that moment with them is special. Just to have your teammates be happy for you means everything."

Tatum's fellow All-Star teammate Jaylen Brown lauded him after the game, saying he's "destined for greatness."

The Duke product's 60-point night comes after he notched a previous career-high of 53 points against the Minnesota Timberwolves in early April. He became the youngest Celtics player to score 50 points in a game, surpassing Bird, who accomplished the feat at 26.

Tatum is in the midst of his best season in the NBA, averaging 26.4 points, 7.5 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game while shooting 45.8% from the field and 38.8% from deep.

The Celtics will need Tatum to continue putting up solid numbers if they want to climb in the standings before the playoffs. Boston has eight games remaining on the season and is sixth in the Eastern Conference with a 34-30 record.
