Championship parades for both the Lakers and the Dodgers in honor of their respective titles have been indefinitely delayed due to public health concerns as the coronavirus pandemic cases surge across the country, including Los Angeles.

While uncertainty remains about when exactly city-wide championship celebrations could be held given the COVID-19 situation is expected to get much worse before it gets better, Lakers owner Jeanie Buss envisions a joint parade in honor of both the NBA champs and the World Series-winning Dodgers.

“My dream would be to have a co-parade with the World Champions Los Angeles Dodgers as well,” Buss recently told Arash Markazi of the Los Angeles Times. “And all the fans of Los Angeles could celebrate together, but not until it’s completely safe.”

The logistics of planning and holding such a massive event is exceedingly complex at this time given social-distancing concerns and the potential for creating a super-spreader event, of course. So, it remains to be seen when exactly such celebrations could be held.

In other words, it may be some time before Los Angeles properly honors two of the city’s most esteemed professional sports franchises with deserved and public celebrations. Still, that hasn’t stopped two of the biggest stars on the Lakers and Dodgers to conspire on convincing L.A.’s mayor to make something happen at some point.
