Kelly Oubre was not happy with the kind of treatment he was getting from Philadelphia 76ers fans, and let them know how he feels.
The Philadelphia 76ers are a team that many will be keeping an eye on next season. After their disastrous campaign last year, they are looking to bounce back next season.
Landing Paul George last summer was the move they felt would put them over the top. But George and Joel Embiid’s injury issues kept them away from the court for much of the season.
Embiid’s injury issues are still looming over the 76ers heading into the new season. However, there is still cause for optimism among their fans.
The 76ers fanbase is loud, vocal, and passionate. And it appears Kelly Oubre Jr. has been on the receiving end of the negative aspects of their passion over the last few months.
Kelly Oubre took to Instagram (screenshot via NBACentral) to vent some of his frustration over the way the Philadelphia 76ers fans have treated him over the last few months.
He claimed that the criticisms he faces for his poor three-point shooting is ridiculous, and he is still a world-class NBA player who can dominate.
However, Oubre left things on a positive note, looking forward to seeing the fans again.
“I love Philly, but the love doesn’t seem to be reciprocated. What happened to this place? And for those saying I’m garbage because my (3-point percentage) went down, I still put up numbers, and I’d still cook you.
“I played through finger surgeries on my (left hand) thumb and pinky for three years. But I still put my soul in this s—. That’s one thing only god can take from me. Hope to see y’all soon. Godspeed.”
While Kelly Oubre is a solid player for the 76ers, given the host of talent the side has acquired, it’s hard to see him getting a lot of playing time next season.
The 76ers will want to get Jared McCain more involved next season. Furthermore, VJ Edgecombe is an exciting prospect for the 76ers, who will also need minutes.
And if the 76ers re-sign Quentin Grimes, he will also earn his way into the rotation. As such, the 76ers won’t have much time to give Kelly Oubre ahead of these two-way wings.
If Oubre can perform well in the limited time he will get next season, he could impress 76ers head coach Nick Nurse and earn his way back into a bigger role in the rotation.
