The New York Knicks are officially just one win away from their first trip to the NBA Finals in 27 years after defeating the Cleveland Cavs in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Finals on Saturday. The Knicks got a well-rounded scoring effort in this one, and ultimately walked away with a comfortable 121-108 victory on the road.
After the game, Knicks center Karl-Anthony Towns stood up for his teammate OG Anunoby, who was recently named to the All-Defensive second team.
“Nobody wants to ask OG about second team (all-defense)? Damn. He’s one of the best defenders in the world, and he got robbed from first,” said Towns, per Fred Katz of The Athletic on X, formerly Twitter.
It’s unclear whose spot Towns thinks Anunoby should have taken out of Chet Holmgren, Victor Wembanyama, Ausar Thompson, Derrick White, and Rudy Gobert, but there’s no doubt that Anunoby is indeed among the best defensive players on planet Earth, using his strength, quickness, and wingspan to lock down opposing players trying to beat him off the dribble, as well as being able to guard bigger players in the paint.
Anunoby has also been on a heater on offense during these playoffs, and although he has cooled down a touch since returning from a hamstring injury that sidelined him during the Philadelphia 76ers series, he is still playing at an elite level on both sides of the ball, as is essentially everyone on the Knicks right now.
New York has now won ten straight playoff games and is looking to clinch its second straight series sweep against a Cavs team that currently looks dead in the water.
Game 4 is set for Monday night in Cleveland, with tipoff at 8:00 pm ET.
