Lakers get more bad news about Andre Drummond’s recovery

When it rains it pours for the Los Angeles Lakers.

After already losing both LeBron James and Anthony Davis to injuries that will keep them out for a while, the defending champs got some much-needed relief when they signed Andre Drummond last week.

The hope was that Drummond would be able to bridge the gap between now and the return of L.A.’s big star players. Montrezl Harrell’s reaction spoke for itself.

It even got to the point where the Lakers began exploring options to dump Marc Gasol, just to free up more space for Drummond. Then 15 minutes into his debut, he hurt his toe.

On Sunday, Lakers head coach Frank Vogel offered a troubling update on the big man’s recovery.

Apparently the issue isn’t as simple as everyone originally anticipated.

“He’s still having trouble putting his shoe on the first two days through it,” Vogel told reporters via Zoom, per Dave McMenamin of ESPN.

“He’s just not there yet. He’s still in a great deal of discomfort and we want to make sure that this thing gets behind him.”

Last week, the Lakers got an unfortunate update about James’ recovery time.

A few weeks before that, the same happened with Davis’ return timetable.

And now Drummond.

Will the defending champs ultimately be able to get healthy in time for the playoffs? Time will tell, but it’s not looking great at the moment.
