Facing his former team in the Chicago Bulls‘ second preseason game this year, point guard Lonzo Ball had himself quite a night. Playing at home at the United Center for the second time in four days, Lonzo and the Bulls came up with a huge win over the New Orleans Pelicans to move the record on the preseason to 2-0.

The Bulls got a really nice effort out of the Bulls’ starting unit, as this team locked down defensively for the second straight game. The length that the Bulls have in this rotation is a problem for the opposition in the preseason. Hopefully, this is a trend that will carry through to the regular season.

Before tip-off between the Bulls and Pelicans at the United Center in Chicago on the night of Oct. 8, Lonzo spoke on facing his former team. Per Rob Schaefer of NBC Sports Chicago on Oct. 8, Lonzo said that he “doesn’t feel any type of way” getting to face his former team at home this early in the preseason.

And Lonzo truly proved a point in this preseason win over the Pelicans, which came in dominant fashion for the Bulls by the final score of 121-85. It was the second straight blowout preseason win for second-year head coach Billy Donovan and the Bulls to start things out.

Lonzo didn’t really get to face many of his prominent former teammates in this Bulls’ win over the Pelicans heading into the weekend. The Pelicans star forward duo of Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram were missing due to injury in this game. Lonzo actually got to face just about as many former Bulls from last season’s team as he did prominent former teammates of his in NOLA.

Nonetheless, Lonzo came up with a huge outing in this preseason win over the Pelicans. He registered 19 points, five rebounds, four assists, two steals, and one block. And he shot 7-of-9 from the field, 5-of-6 from beyond the arc, and didn’t have any attempts from the free-throw line.

Lonzo was also a game-high +32 out on the floor.

This was a solid performance for a Bulls team that looks really good through two games in the preseason. There are a lot of encouraging signs for Donovan and the Bulls heading into the regular season. But this is something that needs to spill over into the regular season.
