Chet Holmgren expresses excitement after discovering his teammate Alex Caruso’s four-year extension with the Oklahoma City Thunder. Caruso, traded by the Thunder this offseason, is notable for providing high-level defense, a skill that perfectly matches Holmgren’s.
Playing for the Chicago Bulls last season, Caruso landed with the Thunder in exchange for Josh Giddey. However, the “Bald Eagle” is only on a $9.9 million contract with his new team and will expire after the new season.
As the Thunder rise as the West’s best team, the former Texas A&M Aggies signed for an extension, per Shams Charania’s report:
“Oklahoma City Thunder two-time NBA All-Defensive Team guard Alex Caruso has agreed to a four-year, $81 million contract extension with the franchise, his agent Greg Lawrence of Wasserman told ESPN.”

The news swiftly reached Chet Holmgren, who shared ESPN’s announcement in his Instagram story along with a short note:
“Money talks,” Holmgren wrote.
Caruso’s new contract is the biggest of his career, surpassing his four-year, $37 million deal with the Bulls in 2021.
Now that Holmgren’s out of the court due to his hip injury, Caruso takes over as one of the Thunder’s premier defense players. Despite his low averages of 5.5 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 2.5 assists, his talent for pressuring opponents through defense makes him a valuable player.
Chet Holmgren continues to be nearly silent in the basketball news due to his hip injury, giving him zero chances of playing on the court. Since his ailment last month, it’s still ambiguous when Oklahoma City Thunder fans will see their 22-year-old star center back in action this season.
Holmgren got his right iliac wing fractured during a match with the Golden State Warriors on November 10, which made him miss many of OKC’s crucial matches, including most of the In-Season Tournament.
According to ESPN, the NBA plans to reevaluate Holmgren in January as part of the league’s return-to-play protocol. Even if he rules out clearly, he should be perfectly stable, particularly before the playoffs.

Despite the former Gonzaga Bulldogs’ temporary loss, the Thunder remains a dominant force in the West, continuing to be consistent in first place with a 23-5 standing and an eight-game win streak.
Chet Holmgren averages 16.4 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 2.6 blocks out of ten games this season. He also made four doubles-doubles.
The Thunder seek to continue their hot streak in their next game against the Indiana Pacers this Thursday, 6:00 PM Central Time.
