NBA miss a trick by ending Victor Wembanyama's Halloween tradition

San Antonio Spurs phenom Victor Wembanyama has dominated not just on the court since entering the NBA in 2023 — he has also owned Halloween.

As a rookie, he turned heads with a Slenderman costume that drew widespread praise. In his sophomore season, he appeared as Kaonashi (No Face)The Frenchman was so committed to the "Spirited Away" impersonation that he pulled off the slow stride and head nod while walking the hallway before the Spurs faced the Utah Jazz last Halloween.

So, who does Wemby plan to dress up as for Halloween this year?

Victor Wembanyama rues NBA scheduling

Unfortunately, the Spurs don't have a game scheduled on Halloween this year. After hosting the Miami Heat on Thursday, they won't play again until they visit the Phoenix Suns on Sunday.

While the two-day break should serve as a nice breather, Wemby is upset he won't get to wow fans with a unique Halloween fit.

"We don't have a game on Halloween, so we won't get to see a costume this year, unfortunately," he told reporters on Monday.

Wemby could always celebrate Halloween early by donning a costume on Thursday night, but his comments suggest otherwise.

Victor Wembanyama keen to make history

The 21-year-old has been otherworldly through four games of the new NBA season, averaging 31.0 points, 13.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 4.8 blocks and 1.5 steals. On Monday, he was a mind-blowing +35 on the floor as the Spurs beat the Toronto Raptors, 121-101, to improve to 4-0.

Wemby is determined to lead the Spurs to a 5-0 start, a feat that eluded even the dynastic teams led by David Robinson and Tim Duncan.

"I'm really surprised that the Spurs have never gone 5-0, despite having the highest win percentage in the last 30 years or whatever," Wemby said. "Let's beat that record [laughs]."

The Spurs (4-0) appear primed to end their six-year playoff drought this season. Many analysts believe they are in the early stages of a new dynasty led by the talented trio of Wemby, reigning Rookie of the Year Stephon Castle and rookie sensation Dylan Harper.
