The Grizzlies are finally getting some positive injury news.
Ja Morant is listed as questionable for Wednesday’s game in Boston with right ankle soreness, but rookie center Zach Edey has been upgraded from out to doubtful as he nears his season debut, according to The Commercial Appeal’s Damichael Cole.
Edey, recovering from offseason left ankle surgery, may not play against the Celtics but could be cleared as soon as Saturday’s matchup in Cleveland.
“I’ve seen him on the court working out,” teammate Kentavious Caldwell-Pope said. “I’m excited for him to be back.”
The 7-foot-4 second-year man has been practicing in limited bursts over the past week, and his return would give Memphis some much-needed frontcourt depth as the team continues to battle through early-season injuries.
Kings coach Doug Christie had a message for everyone questioning his 3-8 team: patience.
In a brief but passionate speech before Tuesday’s loss to Denver, Christie said the organization is “aligned” and working through “the hard part of change.”
“When I see the hate, the haters, the fakers — you keep that energy,” Christie told reporters. “While you’re doing that, we’re gonna be working.”
Sacramento ranks near the bottom in defense (27th) and rebounding (29th), and the message was clear. Basically, the Kings have plenty to fix.
Nets center Day’Ron Sharpe missed Tuesday’s game against Toronto with a left glute contusion, but the injury isn’t considered serious, per C.J. Holmes of The New York Daily News.
“He’s day-to-day, we’re not concerned,” coach Jordi Fernandez said.
Rookie forward Danny Wolf was recalled from the G League and saw minutes in Sharpe’s absence.
