Oklahoma City Thunder GM Sam Presti told reporters on Thursday that guard Nikola Topic has been diagnosed with testicular cancer and has already begun chemotherapy.
He also said that Topic’s doctors are “extremely positive” about his long-term outlook. His procedure in early October was to get a biopsy and he asked the Thunder to keep the diagnosis news private until he started treatment, according to Presti.
While he’s still been able to exercise while receiving treatment, Presti said there is no timetable for his return to the court.

Topic was the 12th pick in the 2024 draft but did not play last season due to a torn ACL. Presti said there is no expectation or pressure from the team for him to return.
“Our only expectations for him are to focus on this,” Presti said. “This is his most important priority. He’ll be back playing basketball when he’s able to, but we’re not putting any time length or expectations on that, obviously. He has our total support, encouragement and love.”
