Patrick Beverley is never one to keep his opinions quiet. When surprising details leaked about a struggling team, he stepped in to defend his former franchise.
Beverley blasted Myles Turner on SiriusXM NBA Radio for claiming the Milwaukee Bucks locker room lacks discipline. Beverley defended Doc Rivers and Giannis Antetokounmpo while dismissing Turner’s reports of players being late to team flights.
“[Myles Turner] is a damn s*****!… I’ve never seen Giannis late one time,” he declared on a segment on SiriusXM NBA Radio.
Beverley rejected the idea of a player publicly discussing internal team matters.
The controversy started when Myles Turner made bold claims about the Milwaukee Bucks. Turner appeared on the Game Recognize Game podcast and claimed players were late to meetings, practices, and even team flights.
Turner also said that Giannis Antetokounmpo was given total freedom because of his superstar status.
Beverley pointed out that Milwaukee Bucks coach Doc Rivers has always been known as a “players’ coach,” a style that dates back to his days with the Clippers. However, he noted that players only start to complain about it when a season falls apart.
Beverley then turned the criticism back toward Turner and his own play on the court. He suggested that Turner should ask himself, “What could I have done better?” He pointed to things like blocked shots and three-point percentage.
“He should look at himself and ask what he could have done better—how many more shots he could have blocked, what his three-point percentage was, and how they went from competing in the Eastern Conference to playing with Giannis and not even making the playoffs,” Beverley added.
Turner’s comments have created a significant divide among NBA players regarding locker room transparency.
Turner’s comments were about modern player culture, where athletes use media platforms to discuss their true team environments.
Turner talked about a total lack of fines for lateness. He mentioned players arriving late to film sessions and team flights being delayed just because teammates were not on time.
He even suggested that Antetokounmpo “is gonna show up whenever he wants.”
Bobby Portis thought the audio clip was just AI-generated before later calling the whole story exaggerated. Antetokounmpo even responded indirectly on Instagram, posting, “Another day getting better and minding our business.”
Beverley saw the public comments as disloyal and damaging during a sensitive period for the organization. Milwaukee ended with a terrible 32-win season and dealt with trade speculation regarding Antetokounmpo.
Some athletes now value complete honesty in public discussions, while others still believe that team business should always stay behind closed doors.
