According to NBA insider Marc Stein, Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo has made no firm decisions yet about his future.
Shams Charania of ESPN reported on Monday that Antetokounmpo is open to leaving the Bucks, who have won only one postseason series since winning the 2021 championship against the Phoenix Suns in six games.
“League sources say that Antetokounmpo, no matter what was breathlessly discussed and debated on the Monday morning talk shows, has made no firm decisions yet about his future. Maybe he will ultimately ask the Bucks to trade him. At the moment, though, that is still a maybe,” Stein wrote. “The Bucks, league sources say, remain hopeful that Antetokounmpo will not ask out after a third successive first-round exit. Maybe it is false hope, but Milwaukee — as we’ve been writing all season — isn’t going to entertain the prospect of trading its face of the franchise until it has to.”
The Bucks signed Antetokounmpo to a three-year, $175 million extension in October 2023. Antetokounmpo will make $54,126,380 next season.
A future Hall of Famer, Antetokounmpo averaged 30.4 points, 11.9 rebounds, 6.5 assists, 0.9 steals and 1.2 blocks for the Bucks this season in 67 games. Milwaukee lost to the Indiana Pacers in the first round of the playoffs in five games.
Antetokounmpo is a two-time MVP, a one-time Finals MVP, a one-time Defensive Player of the Year and a nine-time All-Star. The superstar forward has career averages of 23.9 points, 9.9 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 1.1 steals and 1.2 blocks.
The 30-year-old Antetokounmpo does not have a no-trade clause in his contract.
“It is believed that the Bucks’ annual postseason sitdown with Saratsis and co-agent Georgios Panou to delve into Antetokounmpo’s future has not yet taken place,” Stein wrote.
