Robert Horry is a seven-time NBA champion and one of the most respected players in the history of the game. Widely known as “Big Shot Rob,” he was on a podcast recently. He was jokingly asked if he believes LeBron James will get as many titles as he has, and when will it be his final season. Horry laughed and gave his answer, saying that it is not in the cards for the leading scorer in the league. But what might be in the cards is a likely emotional last season for The King.
Speaking about how long LeBron has left in the tank, he said, “I think he has two more years left in him. That is a wrap.”
That means the most LeBron can do is win six titles if the Los Angeles Lakers win back-to-back championships. But what Horry didn’t mention is that by playing two more years, LeBron has a chance to make history in the most emotional way possible.
Last season, LeBron made history by playing alongside his son Bronny James. If he plays two more years, that means he has a chance to play with his younger son, Bryce James, as well.
In the past several months, we have heard LeBron say plenty of things about his possible and inevitable retirement. Once, he said that his daughter and wife will determine when he retires. He also said that he doesn’t want to play in the NBA as a role player for 10 to 15 minutes a night. Over and over, he has stated that if he is physically capable of delivering, he will play. Mentally, he is one of the smartest players in league history. But the question is how long his body will handle the regular season.
Last season, The King wanted to play all 82 games. He ended up playing 71 games and it was clear by the end of the season that he was not at his best. This season, it is more likely that the Lakers will lower his minutes and games to keep him fresh for the playoffs.
But when you make an All-NBA team in your 22nd season and at age 39, it means you are keeping your body in the best shape possible.
With his statement about LeBron and his final year, Horry didn’t mean to ignite a movement, but he might have. Just imagine the emotional roller coaster that would be LeBron, Bryce, and Bronny all in the league for his final season. Wouldn’t that be the best way to send off a legendary player?
Here are a few fun facts. LeBron needs 49 more games to pass Robert Parish for the most games played in league history. That is a number he can easily pass, even this season. But given load management and the Lakers trying to keep him fresh for the playoffs, he might get that record next season, when he has a chance to play with both Bronny and Bryce. Wouldn’t that be amazing?
Bryce will be eligible to enter the 2026 NBA Draft. He is currently playing college basketball at the University of Arizona. At the moment, he is not projected in the 2026 mock draft, but his potential skills as a shooting guard might make him a late second-round pick. Predictions always change depending on development. Some players jump higher in the draft, while others fall lower. Considered a three-star recruit, Bryce might make it to the NBA for the sake of history.
Last season, LeBron and Bronny made history by becoming the first active father-son duo to play in the league. But a father and two sons? That is unheard of. And if LBJ pulls it off, he will be remembered forever for his longevity.
