Suns Devin Booker no longer top trade target for Rockets

Nothing is off the table this offseason for the Phoenix Suns. General manager Brian Gregory is still trying to move into his new office, but has an opportunity to make an entrance this summer with big changes. Forward Kevin Durant has been a name penciled down as the top trade target for the franchise. However, superstar guard Devin Booker has had reports of teams flocking to trade for the 28-year-old.

The Houston Rockets has been the top team connected with Booker, as a way to elevated the young, upstart second seed to contention. Despite the interest and early playoff exit, Houston has lost interest in trading for the four-time All-Star, according to The Athletics’ Kelly Iko.

Iko on Rockets lack of interest in Suns guard:

“The Rockets have previously held serious interest in the Suns’ Devin Booker, but team sources said that is no longer the case. Not only do team officials still have faith in Jalen Green, who is five years younger than Booker and $66 million cheaper over the next three seasons, but also Booker’s struggles last season shifted the thinking on this front.”

The Rockets still fully believe in their 23-year-old shooting guard, even after an atrocious playoff run averaging 13.3 points on 37.2% shooting. This season was Green’s first playoff appearance and the franchise is ready to mark it as first time jitters by the former 2nd overall pick.

Houston is more likely to target another Suns superstar in Durant this offseason. A potential package for the former MVP would be significantly less because of the age, contract and injury history surrounding Durant.
