Tristan Thompson becomes U.S. citizen after signing two-year deal with Celtics

Tristan Thompson recently signed a two-year, $19 million deal with the Boston Celtics after spending nine seasons with the Cleveland Cavaliers, and he celebrated in the best way possible.

Thompson was sworn in as an American citizen earlier this week and changed his citizenship to the United States.

The 29-year-old was a Canadian citizen and came to the United States in 2009 to study at the University of Texas. He was only there for one year before joining the NBA Draft.

Thompson began his NBA career with the Cavs in 2011, winning an NBA title with the club alongside LeBron James in 2016. Last season he averaged 12 points, 10.1 rebounds and 2.1 assists while shooting 51.2 percent from the field and 39.1 percent from deep.

Thompson recently got back together with Khloe Kardashian, with whom he has a daughter. There were plenty of reasons for him to become a U.S. citizen. His family and career were only two of those reasons.
