Draymond Green and the Golden State Warriors finally get Steph Curry back after the latter’s three-game absence. The NBA’s all-time leader in three-pointers made will return to action on Tuesday night in a matchup against the defending champions, the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Veteran center Al Horford, however, will sit out on Tuesday due to a toe issue and injury management. Warriors head coach Steve Kerr told reporters ahead of the Thunder game that this development regarding Horford could impact an imminent decision involving Green, as Golden State prepares for a matchup against the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday, the second night of a back-to-back set.
Green has missed just one game this season for the Warriors. The 35-year-old sat out on Wednesday, Nov. 5, against the Sacramento Kings due to a rib injury. It is also important to note that that was also the second game of a back-to-back set for Golden State.
The fact that the Warriors play twice in two nights on Tuesday and Wednesday has placed Green’s status in jeopardy. The former Defensive Player of the Year will suit up against OKC, but he will potentially be sidelined for the Spurs game — a notion that Kerr confirmed on Tuesday night.
Speaking to the press during his pregame press conference, Kerr announced that “there’s a chance” Green will sit out on Wednesday against San Antonio because he’s “banged up,” per Anthony Slater of ESPN.
Kerr noted that this is also the reason why Horford is resting on Tuesday. The Warriors want to separate the two veterans with the objective of having at least one of them available each game. Kerr previously announced that Horford, who signed with the team as a free agent during the offseason, will not play in back-to-back games this season.
Green is currently averaging 8.4 points, 5.6 rebounds, 5.8 assists and a career-high 1.8 triples in 28.7 minutes per contest. Horford, on the other hand, is putting up 5.6 points, 4.4 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.3 treys in 21.4 minutes off the bench.
