Jason Kidd has sent a grateful farewell message to Dallas Mavericks fans after his five-year run with the franchise came to an end.

The former Mavericks coach left Dallas during a major organizational reset led by new President of Basketball Operations Masai Ujiri.

Even with the firing closing one chapter, Kidd’s public message focused on appreciation for the players, the organization and the city that became home during his time on the bench.

Jason Kidd thanks the Dallas Mavericks organization after five-year run ends

Jason Kidd on X posted a farewell statement after his departure from the Dallas Mavericks. Kidd wrote, “The last five years in Dallas have meant more to my family and me than I can fully put into words.

“I want to sincerely thank the Mavericks organization, the players, coaches, staff, front office, ownership, and every employee behind the scenes who put their heart into this team every single day. It has been an honor to work alongside so many incredible people.”

He added, “To the players, thank you for your trust, your commitment, and the battles we went through together. I am proud of what we built, the relationships formed, and the way you competed night in and night out.”

Kidd’s exit came after Ujiri took control of basketball operations and decided Dallas needed a clean slate before building around Cooper Flagg.

The move ended a tenure that included a 2022 Western Conference Finals run and a 2024 NBA Finals appearance, but also a difficult final stretch after the Luka Doncic trade changed the direction of the franchise.

Jason Kidd tells Dallas Mavericks fans he leaves with gratitude and respect

Kidd’s strongest message was reserved for the people who supported him and the city that embraced his family.

“To the fans, thank you for embracing me and supporting this team with so much passion. Your energy, loyalty, and love for the Mavericks make Dallas one of the truly special places in sports.

“And to the city of Dallas, thank you for welcoming my family and me with open arms. The friendships and memories created here will stay with us forever,” Kidd continued.

“While this chapter comes to an end, I leave with nothing but gratitude and respect for everyone who was part of this journey,” he concluded.

The tone was calm despite the circumstances. Kidd finished his Mavericks tenure with a 205-205 regular-season record, and his playoff runs still remain part of a complicated legacy in Dallas.

His final season, however, left the organization ready for change. The Mavericks stumbled through a 26-56 campaign, Kyrie Irving missed the season while recovering from a torn ACL, and Ujiri now gets to choose a new coach for the Flagg era.

Kidd did not use his farewell to defend himself or revisit the decisions that led to his exit. He simply thanked Dallas, which made the message feel more like closure than a fight over blame.
