Zach LaVine joins Michael Jordan in rare company
Mike DiNovo-USA TODAY Sports

Zach LaVine and Michael Jordan are two names we rarely see in the same sentence. Up to this point, the only real link between the two is that they’ve suited up for the Chicago Bulls.

That’s until LaVine started the 2018-19 season in grand fashion, scoring 30-plus points in each of his first four games. LaVine now joins “His Airness” as the only player in Bulls history to accomplish this feat.

The former Minnesota Timberwolves lottery pick ranks third in the NBA in scoring at 32.2 points per game, behind only Blake Griffin and Stephen Curry. Not only is LaVine scoring at a high clip, but he’s shooting a remarkable 57 percent from the field. That’s next-level stuff for a wing.

Chicago received some pushback for matching the Sacramento Kings’ four-year, $78 million offer to LaVine this past summer. But through four games, he’s acted as a rock for an otherwise injury-plagued team.

Unfortunately, LaVine’s excellence has only led to a 1-3 record through these four games. That’s where the comparisons to MJ end.
