49ers HC Kyle Shanahan has 'always been a fan' of Odell Beckham Jr.

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan seemingly wouldn't mind adding free-agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. to his offense this fall.

"We’re open to discussions with everybody. We look into everything," Shanahan said about possibly pursuing Beckham shortly after the NFL trade deadline passed on Tuesday, as shared by Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk. "You don’t have to worry about the trade deadline with him, because he’s out there, and he’s available. I’ve always been a fan of Odell, like I feel like most people are. He’s that good of a player. But I’m definitely very happy with our receiver group right now and love the receivers that we have."

Shanahan made his comments after ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter linked Beckham with the 49ers earlier this week and also after newly-acquired running back Christian McCaffrey torched the Los Angeles Rams, Beckham's most-recent team, for a rushing, receiving and passing touchdown in this past Sunday's 31-14 victory that improved San Francisco to 4-4.

The 49ers and Rams may want to sign a dynamic playmaker before Christmas, but it's been said that Beckham and the New York Giants could be "open" to a reunion with each other. The Green Bay Packers, Kansas City Chiefs, Dallas Cowboys, San Francisco 49ers and Buffalo Bills have also been listed as potential landing spots for the three-time Pro Bowl selection who turns 30 years old this Saturday.

Beckham is still recovering from the torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee he suffered playing for the Rams in Super Bowl LVI in February. Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk noted Tuesday that conflicting stories say OBJ could either be "ready to go in the middle of November" or "won’t be ready to play until the middle of December."

It's unclear if such an up-in-the-air timeline could scare the 49ers off or if Beckham would only sign with San Francisco if the club earns a few additional wins en route to ending November with a 7-4 overall record.
