The Las Vegas Raiders have a ton of things they have to check off of their to-do list this offseason. Obviously getting a quarterback is at or near the top of their list, but spending some of their near $100 million in cap space is pretty important, too.
2025 could be a season that sees the Las Vegas Raiders make a huge jump compared to where they were last season. It's possible they won't be picking at No. 6 again next year. And, you can bank on that just off what we know now alone -- this coaching staff is much better, and would win more games than last year even if the roster in 2025 was the exact same, or worse.
But to determine how big the jump is that they will make, is based on what they do during this offseason. If they don't make any changes, they don't make a very big jump. This coaching staff is good for maybe two more wins than last year. The roster needs to be improved. They need a QB, better interior offensive line, better RB group, another WR that can be used as a playmaker, more depth on the defensive line, another CB, and some LB depth.
There's a lot to be done, and whether they address it in free agency in a few weeks or the 2025 NFL Draft in a few months, is a different story. Either way, the Raiders are getting started on their free agency plans, with one small domino falling on Monday.
On Monday we got our first free agency news related to the Raiders and their offseason. According to ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler, the Raiders are not tendering Restricted Free Agent wide receiver DJ Turner.
If a team doesn't tender a restricted free agent before the start of the new league year, the player becomes an unrestricted free agent, as for Turner, he will test free agency, but the Raiders would love to bring him back.
Turner was a very important part of the depth the Raiders used last season. Per Sports Info Solutions, Turner ran the fifth most routes of any player for the Raiders last season, and the third most among WRs. When the injuries hit, he was still there. Turner also ran the ball five times last season on jet sweep plays. His versatility and speed were something the Raiders loved.
But, other teams could have seen what he was able to do in a bad offense and want to bring him on board. We will soon find out what will happen, as this is just the first domino to fall, even if it is somewhat of a small one.
