The New York Jets added Randall Cobb to serve as a "flag bearer" in their crowded receivers' room.

"Flag bearers, like the guys who are going to plant the flag and be able to echo the messaging," said head coach Robert Saleh.

Cobb, a battle-tested veteran, has spent 10 of his 12 pro seasons playing with Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay.

"Remember, [offensive coordinator Nathaniel] Hackett was with Randall too, so he’s a guy who’s got a lot of experience in the system," said Saleh "He’s a guy that they’re very comfortable and familiar with."

Rodgers is not only comfortable with Cobb on the field, but the two men have developed a last friendship over the course of their playing careers.

"I love Randall. I’m the Godfather to his second. Him and Aiyda have been really special in my life for a long time. Love them, glad he’s here," said Rodgers.

The soon-to-be 33-year old Cobb looks to provide Rodgers with a reliable target in 2023. Three hundred and seventeen of his career catches resulted in Packers’ first downs.

“I think that I can fill some voids. I'm very excited for the opportunity. I know this isn’t the prime of my career, but I do think I still got a lot left in the tank,” said Cobb. “If you watch my film and you see what I’ve done over the past couple years I’m pretty efficient in the time that I’m in [the game].”

Rodgers agrees.

"I still feel like he’s got a lot left in the tank," said Rodgers "He’s dealt with some injuries the last couple years, but obviously Joe [Douglas] and his staff really value his character."

Saleh values what Cobb brings to the table, too.

"To bring in a guy who can still play the game at a high level, who knows the system inside out, who stands for everything you want, it’s really a no-brainer at that point," said the third-year head coach.
