3 Reasons Jets Fans Have To Be Concerned With Zach Wilson

Wilson’s two victories in seven starts are not impressive either because he defeated the Tennessee Titans in overtime by just three points.

Meanwhile, his other win came against the Houston Texans, who are already out of playoff contention.

But aside from the inability to bring the Jets to victory, here are other concerns the Jets faithful must have regarding their rookie play-caller.

3. His Interception Rate Is Appalling

Wilson’s four interceptions against the New England Patriots alone is a glaring red flag.

But that game does not depict the whole picture because he has only had one interception-free game in eight games played.

However, that game was also against New England, wherein he got sidelined in the second quarter after a right knee injury.

Had he played longer, the Patriots would have had an opportunity to steal a pass from him, given how Bill Belichick’s defensive unit is turning out to be.

After Week 13, Wilson has six touchdown passes and 11 interceptions.

He might not break Peyton Manning’s infamous rookie record of 28 interceptions.

However, initial returns indicate that Wilson isn’t Manning-esque either.

2. He Can’t Complete His Passes

In three seasons with BYU, Wilson had completion percentages of 65.9, 62.4, and 73.5.

Unfortunately, his numbers in the NFL aren’t on par with those figures.

During his first three games with the Jets, Wilson’s completion rate went 54.1, 57.6, and 54.3

All those games were defeats, and New York scored a measly 20 points in three games.

He reached a 60-percent rate three times, and his highest so far was 61.8 during the Tennessee game.

After eight games, his completion mark is at 58 percent, which is not impressive.

He’s struggling to find his targets by making throws that are either too long or short.

His inconsistency has contributed to what’s turning out to be another disappointing season for the Jets.

1. His Game Might Not Translate To The NFL

The NFL is a different beast because defenses are more complex, and the players are faster.

Therefore, rookies coming into the league must adjust to the high-speed nature of the pro game.

Remember when Justin Fields thought that the game was slow during the preseason?

He’s still trying to remain consistent for the Chicago Bears.

The same goes for Wilson, who is playing behind one of the league’s worst offensive lines.

But even if he gets a solid pocket that can protect him most of the time, there are still indications that he might not be a reliable starting quarterback.

Unfortunately, the Jets will be back to the drawing board searching for a potential franchise play-caller.

Drafting Wilson is strike two after getting Sam Darnold in 2018.

It might take a while before they get stability at the game’s most crucial position.
