Brock Purdy and the San Francisco 49ers had a terrible start to Sunday’s NFC Championship Game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Philly scored on its first possession of the game after a fourth-down conversion on a ridiculous one-handed catch from DeVonta Smith.

On San Francisco’s first drive of the game, Purdy was hit by Eagles star Haason Reddick on a play that was initially called an incomplete pass. Officials on hand overturned the call, deciding that it was a fumble.

But the larger story here is Purdy. He exited the game with an elbow injury and was taken to the medical tent on the sideline with veteran journeyman Josh Johnson replacing the rookie quarterback under center. Purdy could be seen telling doctors on the sideline that he could not throw the ball.

As you can see, "Mr. Irrelevant" has been absolutely tremendous since replacing an injured Jimmy Garoppolo under center back in Week 13. In fact, he has won all seven of his starts with San Francisco riding a 12-game winning streak heading into the NFC Championship Game.

As a developing situation, we’ll have further updates on Purdy’s injury. For now, it’s been a disastrous start for the young quarterback and his team.
