There will be plenty of eyes on Amarius Mims on the final day of Combine workouts on Sunday.

The Georgia offensive tackle has plenty to prove in Indianapolis. Mims is regarded as one of the premier pass protectors in the 2024 draft but started only eight games in college and was hindered by an ankle injury last season.

As such, how Mims performs physically at Lucas Oil Stadium figures to be closely watched by a host of teams, with the San Francisco 49ers among them.

The Niners would greatly benefit from an upgrade at right tackle — their issues on that side of the offensive line contributing to their downfall in Super Bowl 58 — and had a formal meeting with Mims this week.

If Mims excels in his workout, it could take him out of the 49ers' reach in the first round given the huge upside of a massive physical specimen who measured at 6ft 7in and 340 pounds.

But Mims would clearly be delighted to land with San Francisco, given it would offer him the chance to learn from the Niners' All-Pro left tackle Trent Williams, whom he identified as a role model during his press conference this week.

"I met with the 49ers, that was one of my last visits on day two," Mims said.

"It would mean a lot to be in a room with Trent Williams, learning from a guy like that, in my opinion the best tackle in the NFL, I would love to learn from him."

Asked who he models his game after, Mims added: "Really right tackles, Lane Johnson, Penei Sewell and on the left, of course Laremy Tunsil and Trent Williams."

Though not as impressive in space as Williams, Mims' dominance in pass protection gives him an extremely high ceiling akin to that of the 11-time Pro Bowler.

Williams has taken an active role in mentoring the younger members of the 49er O-Line and there would be no better mentor to help Mims reach that ceiling.

Yet if Mims crushes his workout on the final day of the Combine, the 49ers likely won't get the chance to pair him with the future Hall of Famer.
