49ers GM addresses possible 'crisis of confidence' in QB Brock Purdy

San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch insists that players and coaches remain all-in on quarterback Brock Purdy following shaky outings over three consecutive losses.

"There's no crisis of confidence in Brock," Lynch explained during a Friday appearance on San Francisco sports radio station KNBR, per David Bonilla of 49ers WebZone. "I do talk to him a lot. I talk to all our players a lot. Brock is who he is, and that's what makes him special. He's got a lot of belief in himself. He's an accountable guy. He takes a lot of accountability."

Purdy became an easy target for critics after he tossed five interceptions across three straight defeats that dropped the 49ers to 5-3 ahead of their bye. With that said, numerous analysts defended the 23-year-old over the past couple of weeks and noted certain numbers only tell a portion of the story regarding how he's played.

According to ESPN stats, Purdy enters the weekend ranked second in the NFL among qualified players with a 75.0 adjusted QBR and a 105.4 passer rating on the campaign. He still leads the league with an average of 9.1 yards per pass attempt, and he recorded 12 touchdown passes over San Francisco's first eight games.

"Yes, he has turned the ball over in some of these games, which you can't do, and he took accountability for that," Lynch added about Purdy. "He's also played some really good football. And so our belief in Brock Purdy is as high as it's ever been. He is a steady guy. You marvel at the way he takes challenges. And yeah, he hit a little adversity. That happens in this league. We've hit the adversity as a team as well. And so much of it is how you respond, and a lot of people run from it. He's kind of embraced it. He's taken accountability, put it on himself."

Life gets no easier for Purdy and company this weekend. The 49ers play the 6-2 Jacksonville Jaguars, who have won five in a row. As of Friday, oddschecker listed the Niners as three-point road favorites against Jacksonville.
