Since taking charge as the regular quarterback of the San Francisco 49ers, quarterback Brock Purdy has done enough for the team. In his first season, the quarterback led the team to the NFC Championship only to get injured in the crucial stage. In the next year, the quarterback managed to win the NFC Championship and took his team to the Super Bowl.

Now, it is high time for the San Francisco 49ers to pay the quarterback back. They have initiated a much-needed contract extension to Purdy’s best target Brandon Aiyuk . In the NFL offseason, the Niners’ general manager John Lynch said that they never had the idea of trading Aiyuk. They are now making moves to keep the WR in the squad knowing his importance in the team.

In a recent interview, Kyle Shanahan said that extending the WR’s contract would play an important role in the squad. Last season, Aiyuk had 75 receptions for 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns. With his help, Purdy also broke multiple franchise records.

Kyle Shanahan also said the extension was necessary for the team in the coming season. In the NFL Annual Meeting, Shanahan claimed that the success of a quarterback lies in the success of signing a good wide receiver.

The head coach stated:

It’s hard to be a successful quarterback if you don’t have real good receivers. So it starts there with Brandon, and I think that’s real big for Brock and his future to make sure we have a good group for him going forward. Kyle Shanahan said

Kyle Shanahan is hopeful of the Brandon Aiyuk deal

After the Super Bowl, the relationship between the San Francisco 49ers and Brandon Aiyuk turned sore. The WR was frustrated as he was not being targeted much in the game. A plethora of sources claimed that he might not be on the team in the coming season.

Despite all the speculations, Shanahan believes that the deal will fall into place as both parties share mutual interests. The HC noted:

Usually when you’re in a situation like we are, where you got a real good player who wants to be here, and we want the player to be here extremely bad, too. What I found with us is it doesn’t always happen right away but it takes a matter of time to work it out. Kyle Shanahan added

Amid all the talks, Aiyuk had posted a cryptic message on social media. The message reflected that he was unsatisfied with the slow proceedings of his contract talk.
