The San Francisco 49ers are looking to bolster their safety depth following injuries to Talanoa Hufanga and George Odum. Hufanga's season came to an end in Week 11 after the starter suffered a torn ACL, leading to rookie Ji'Ayir Brown taking his place in the lineup.

Odum sustained a torn biceps in last week's victory over the Seattle Seahawks. While his return for the playoffs is possible, the injuries prompted the 49ers to explore additional options.

According to NFL Network and confirmed by NBC Sports Bay Area, the team plans to sign veteran Erik Harris to the practice squad.

Harris, undrafted in 2012, spent three seasons with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (2013-15) before joining the New Orleans Saints in 2016. He then played four seasons with the Oakland/Las Vegas Raiders (2017–20) and two seasons with the Atlanta Falcons (2021–22).

Over his seven NFL seasons, Harris has appeared in 91 games, starting 43. He has registered 267 tackles, seven tackles for a loss, four quarterback hits, five interceptions, two touchdowns, 28 passes defensed, 0.5 sacks, and a forced fumble during his NFL career.
