49ers RB Raheem Mostert 'making a full recovery' from knee injury

The San Francisco 49ers made a somewhat surprising run to the NFC Championship game last season, despite losing their starting running back to a season-ending injury in Week 1. Now, free-agent-to-be Raheem Mostert is apparently making a better-than-expected recovery and according to ESPN's Adam Schefter, should be ready to go for the start of the 2022 campaign.

Mostert signed as an undrafted free agent with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2015 but was cut from the team after the preseason. Mostert then bounced between the practice squads and active rosters of the Miami Dolphins, Baltimore Ravens, Cleveland Browns, New York Jets and Chicago Bears over the next year, playing 13 games but failing to receive any carries.

The Purdue product landed on the Niners' practice squad in November 2016 and was promoted to the active roster before Week 17 of that season. He appeared in 20 contests over the 2017 and 2018 campaigns, recording 40 rushing attempts and playing an active role on special teams, but his breakout year came in 2019.

That season, Mostert led San Francisco in rushing yards (772) and rushing touchdowns (eight) -- both of which are still career-highs -- and he tied with Tevin Coleman for the team-lead in carries with 137. Mostert also added 14 receptions for 280 yards and two receiving touchdowns that year as well.

The 29-year-old has struggled mightily with injuries over the past two campaigns, first being limited to eight games in 2020 and then playing just four snaps and recording one carry in 2021 before suffering his knee injury.
