NFL Media insider Ian Rapoport reports that the San Francisco 49ers are re-signing quarterback Brandon Allen. NBC Sports Bay Area reports that the two sides have agreed to a one-year deal. Allen was scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent on Wednesday at the start of the new league year.

With Sam Darnold scheduled to become a free agent, Allen and Brock Purdy are the only two quarterbacks under contract with the 49ers in 2024.

The Jacksonville Jaguars drafted Allen (6-2, 209) as a sixth-round pick (No. 201 overall) out of Arkansas in 2016. His last game appearance was with the Cincinnati Bengals in 2022, when he completed all three of his pass attempts for 22 total yards, per Pro Football Reference.

Allen, 31, spent the 2023 season as the third quarterback on the 49ers' depth chart, behind Purdy and Darnold. He also previously played for the Denver Broncos.

In the four NFL seasons in which he has taken a snap, Allen has completed 56.7 percent of his passes for 1,611 yards with 10 touchdowns and six interceptions while adding 64 rushing yards on 33 carries in 15 game appearances, including nine starts.
