OverTheCap.com reports that the San Francisco 49ers have restructured defensive tackle Javon Hargrave's contract for cap-saving purposes. This news arrives at the same time as ESPN's report that the team restructured tight end George Kittle's contract to create about $10 million in additional cap space.

Hargrave joined the 49ers last year on a four-year, $84 million deal that included $40 million guaranteed. He was set to earn nearly $8.9 million in base salary in 2024 and count about $15.41 million against the salary cap.

According to OverTheCap.com, his base salary has been reduced to $1.125 million, and his salary cap hit is now set to about $9.27 million, creating about $6.14 million in savings this year.

The Pittsburgh Steelers selected Hargrave (6-2, 305) out of South Carolina State in the third round (No. 89 overall) of the 2016 NFL Draft. He registered 44 tackles, including eight for a loss, 14 quarterback hits, seven sacks, and two passes defensed through 16 starts last season, per Pro Football Reference.

Hargrave, 31, has recorded 373 tackles, including 54 for a loss, 78 quarterback hits, 44.5 sacks, eight passes defensed, and four forced fumbles in 127 game appearances (112 starts) over his eight NFL seasons with the Steelers, Philadelphia Eagles, and 49ers.

He was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2021 and 2023.
